Hilary Duff - Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff is the self-titled third album by American pop singer Hilary Duff, released by Hollywood Records in the United States on September 28, 2004 (see 2004 in music). Duff said that she had more creative control over the album than she did over Metamorphosis (2003), her second album, and that the songs were more "personal" and contained heavier influences of rock music. Most of the songwriting and production team on the album, which included John Shanks and Charlie Midnight, had contributed to Metamorphosis. Hilary Duff received mostly negative reviews from critics, many of whom compared it to the music of Avril Lavigne and Ashlee Simpson. Sales of the album in the U.S. did not match those of Metamorphosis, and the singles "Fly" and "Someone's Watching over Me" were not major hits.

All Saints - Saints And Sinner

Saints & Sinners was the second studio album by All Saints. After the success All Saints debut album, a new album was released called Saints & Sinners and it features three hit singles: Pure Shores, All Hooked Up and Black Coffee.

The album and singles from the album were successful as well as the tours and promotions. Unlike the debut album it didn't feature cover songs or reworkings of classic song. In general the concept of the album is the same as the previous album with popular R&B songs suited for a wide audience.

Three tracks on the album were produced by William Orbit, known for his work with Madonna including the first single "Pure Shores" which was written for The Beach movie. The vast majority of the songs were written by Shaznay Lewis and Karl Gordon and some contributions by Melanie Blatt. This lead to tensions with the Appleton sisters who had the ambition to be more than singers. Later a greatest hits album was released titled All Hits. It would be All Saints' last studio album for six years, until the release of Studio 1 in 2006.

+44 - Chapter 13

Chapter 13 is a song by +44 from their 2006 album When Your Heart Stops Beating. It is rumored that "Chapter 13" will be the third single in the UK.

"Chapter 13" is the last song on +44's debut album When Your Heart Stops Beating and is based around the novel Danté's Inferno, many +44 fans assumed it was written about the end of Blink-182. The lyrics "There's no one listening" are interpreted by fans to be a response to the last track on the Angels and Airwaves album We Don't Need to Whisper. The track (Start The Machine) ends on "If Loves a word that you say, say and I will listen".

Yahoo! released a video for the song directed by Jason B. Bergh, which features clips of the band playing live, behind the scenes promotional shooting, and original early footage including Travis, Mark and Carol Heller rehearsing, however this is not the official video for the single.

Darin - Break The News

Darin Zanyar the popstar was born from the first season of Swedish Idol, one of the many spin-offs from the massive worldwide Idol franchise. He didn’t win (coming in second) but if you’ve ever watched any Idol program, it’ll give you a good idea as to what kind of music Darin records. Break The News, as with his previous two releases, is pure mainstream teen pop. Luckily, it’s also a near perfection of the genre.

Break The News finds Darin sounding like a feisty boy band member gone solo (though he was never affiliated with any boy band). He coos, over emotes and snarls at exactly the right points. The sound is manufactured and for the most part overly familiar. However, there are points (the lead single Perfect, album-opener Insanity and party track Saturday Night) that muster an intense pop fervor that hints at what Darin is wisely aiming for. Similarly, chest-beating ballad Everything But The Girl has hit written all over it, and the electro thump of club tracks If You Wanna and Desire shows some dance floor promise. In fact, what Break The News lacks in inventiveness, it makes up for in pure spunk. It’s only in the record’s second half where the cracks begin to show. What If I Kissed You Now and The Thing About You are typical boy band fodder, undistinguishable from countless chart acts.

Processed pop music is at times unfairly maligned for being lightweight and unnecessary, but in many cases the sneers are well deserved. Thankfully, Break The News is the rare exception. While there’s no doubt that this is a party record, it is amongst the best of its genre released this year. Best of all, within the album’s teen-pop framework are some glimmers of artistic potential.

Darin - Darin

He may be only 18 years old, but Darin Zanyar is one of the hardest working stars currently inhabiting planet pop. In 2004 he competed in the first series of Pop Idol in Sweden, and in 2005 he released two brilliant albums within seven months. The first, The Anthem, was produced by the almighty Max Martin with a songwriting line-up impressively including Robyn and Robin Thicke; Zanyar sounded like a one-man *N Sync, and the huge success it gained him in Sweden came as no surprise.

When I heard that Darin would be taking a more R & B direction for the follow-up, I thought that my love affair with this particular pop star would be ending. Yet I was reminded never to doubt the all-conquering Swedes, as Darin's second album (which he called simply Darin, taking Robyn's cue) was even better than his first.

The singles “Step Up” and “Want Ya” put Usher to shame, and there is plenty for the pop kids in the insanely catchy “B What U Wanna B” and the poptastic “Laura.” There's even a mid-tempo track, a Robyn cover called “Walk The Distance,” which my mum is obsessed with. The only disappointments are the ballads, particularly the two that close the album. But the single “Who's That Girl” does have a laid-back charm. However, it's the opening track “Move” that shows Darin at his very best—slick urban pop that couldn't fail to make even the most adamant R & B hater (if there is anyone who hates it more than me) leap onto the dancefloor.

It's when a pop star like Darin comes along that I dream of a UK pop scene that accepts a new Swedish singer as easily as whoever is doing well in America. Chris Brown, for example, would not stand a chance if he had Darin to compete with. He just doesn't have the songs or the general likeability factor, which is clear, even when he's speaking in Swedish, that Darin has in abundance. This boy has a big future ahead of him, but because he is Swedish, he is limited in terms of possible success. Still, there's always a chance, pop fans will hear him and recognize quality immediately. But as much as he completely deserves it, I have my doubts.

Victoria Beckham - Come Together

Outside of the UK, Damon Dash had plans for Beckham in the United States, including a potential release of "Let Your Head Go / This Groove" under the name of "Posh Spice Victoria Beckham". The release was proposed for sometime between March to May 2004, but never occurred. A Dash produced track It's That Simple featuring M.O.P. was promoed to vinyl, and received a premiere on BBC urban music radio station 1Xtra. This only generated further criticism, with the feeling being that Beckham was a far from convincing urban act. Around this time, a 90-second snippet of a track called "Come Together" was released to the media, which was notable for sampling the Beatles' song of the same name.
