The Gabe Dixon - Till You're Gone

The Gabe Dixon Band’s self titled, Fantasy Records debut will be released on 8/26 and has already become a favorite of 2008. Paste calls Dixon “the next great Pop Piano Man. More soulful than Ben Folds, and far less irritating than the Elton John of the past thirty years, Dixon will remind you of Elton when he still had hair and was making albums like Tumbleweed Connection and Madman Across the Water.” The Gabe Dixon Band’s self-titled album was recorded live at Nashville’s renowned Blackbird Studios. You can read the full bio of the band on their MySpace.

Miley Cyrus - Breakout

Breakout is the second solo studio album by American teen pop singer Miley Cyrus. It was released under Hollywood Records on July 22, 2008.

Breakout is the first album by Miley Cyrus that does not have any affiliation to the Hannah Montana character. Cyrus has said that Meet Miley Cyrus was "just meeting me, finding out who I am", while Breakout was inspired by "what's been going on in my life in the past year." "I wanted to embrace my older audience a little more, kind of taking shackles off and doing the music I wanted to do," Cyrus said of Breakout. Cyrus co-wrote all songs on the album apart from four. "Songwriting is what I really want to do with my life forever, [...] I just hope this record showcases that, more than anything, I'm a writer." A majority of the songs are co-written by Antonia & Tim James, the writers of the hit "See You Again".

Two of the four songs that Cyrus did not co-write are covers. "These Four Walls" was originally recorded by MTV reality TV star Cheyenne Kimball, appearing on her debut album The Day Has Come. Coincidentally, Kimball also has a song titled "Full Circle", but Cyrus's song of the same name is an original composition. Cyrus also covered Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". As noted below, all songs except "These Four Walls" and "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" were co-written by Cyrus. "Breakout", it was given to Cyrus by another artist who decided not to use the song for their own album.

Cyrus performed a free concert at Bryant Park on July 18, as a part of Good Morning America's summer concert series.

Red Blooded Women - You Made Your Bed

When you think of modern day girl bands, you probably think of denim miniskirts, cheap hairspray and fake tan. Now, imagine three powerful confident young women more likely to listen to Kraftwerk than Atomic Kitten, influenced by everything from Abba and The Carpenters through to Daft Punk and Depeche Mode. Imagine three young women equally obsessed with thrilling modern pop music coming from the likes of Rihanna, Justin Timberlake and The Ting Tings, as they are with 80’s electro.

Introducing Red Blooded Women...after months of hiding away in several London studios writing with some of the industries most exciting producers, the girls are now set to release their limited edition EP ‘You Made Your Bed’ on 24th August.

A taster of what the future holds, the EP will be available for download on the uber-cool electro label Planet Clique alongside the limited edition red vinyl 7" single, allowing pop aficionados the chance to finally get their hands on some RBW sounds.

The EP features two effervescent, electro-laced pop tracks equally at home on pop playlists as they are on club dancefloors; "You Made You Bed" and "4 2Nite", plus remixes of "You Made Your Bed" from Eazy, Dreamtrak and Rochelle.

Liz from the band says “Just because we’re a girl group, a pop group as it were, we don’t see why we can’t do something a little different. Music that is a little bit awkward and edgy. People kept telling us that we couldn’t do it, but the thing is, we’re stubborn girls - every time someone used the word can’t, we just tried that bit harder. We want to change people’s perceptions of what British pop can be".

Algebra - Run And Hide

Ironically there are no textbooks or classroom instructions that could help one balance the equations of Kedar Massenburg's newest protégé, ALGEBRA. The Atlanta native insists that one can only discover her sonically. As an R&B solo artist with such a simple solution, when mainstream success seems to be more about the right hair, nails and make -up, ALGEBRA’S debut album PURPOSE is the perfect curriculum for breathing life back in to a genre overwrought by factory made clones.

No stranger to performing, ALGEBRA has been lending her melodic voice to projects by Monica and Bilal for years. However, singing for other artists was about as out of character for her as having someone write songs for her. "Even when someone else wrote a song specifically for me, I felt like I was still being a background singer for myself”.

As the music scene in Atlanta became the hot bed of popular music, ALGEBRA taught herself to play guitar and performed regularly at open mics. This pivotal point in her career afforded her the time to develop her writing and performance skills even further without the harness of a prescribed format. "Soon you learn not to care what others think, you learn to perform for you. I would come back week after week and I learned to perform for balance and for freedom. I was becoming alive”.

This organic approach permeates her music. ALGEBRA can easily be pop, rock, rap funk or crunk, yet she can breathe ballads effortlessly. Collaborating with award-winning songwriter and producer Brian Michael Cox on "What Happened" quickly proved to be a true showcase of her brilliance. This soulful ballad is delivered so honestly and with such vulnerability that it sounds like it could be her autobiography. A song filled with PURPOSE.

ALGEBRA’S definitive voice and identity is one of full disclosure. "I don't want to be boxed," she asserts. The litmus test of what she would create lies in being relatable and in offering complete truth in every word she sings. On the song “At This Time" she pours her heart out, placing herself on display to someone whom she has waited a long time to unite with citing descriptive and colorful lyrics, “My arms brag to each other bout how you feel/From conversations I know what they feel is real”. The current single “Run & Hide” produced by the creator of the polka-dot error in hip hop himself, Kwame’ is a testament to all fellas that Miss ALGEBRA will not settle for just any ‘ol guy with lame game. Better come correct or don’t come at all.

As the first artist to be released on the revamped Kedar Entertainment Group, ALGEBRA enters the contemporary soul music landscape following legacies created by artists like D'Angelo, Erykah Badu and India.Arie all of whom developed under the watchful eye of Massenburg. However her sound is unique. ALGEBRA at first is unassuming, but it takes mere moments for you to recognize that she is not just a tempest in a teapot but more like the catalyst of a paradigm shift.

When asked the question, what does PURPOSE mean to her and this project that she has waited so long to share with the world; ALGEBRA replies “The defining moment of purpose is when you realize all that you have is worth less than nothing and still, life is worth living.” With there being only two universal languages in this world - Math and Music; fate would have it, southern songbird ALGEBRA represents both!

Songbird Algebra Blessett is sleek and sophisticated in the music video for her latest single, "Run & Hide". Signed with Kedar Entertainment, this gifted neo-soulstress demonstrates stunning musical prowess with depth, heart, and a style all her own. Check out the latest offering from Algebra:

Martin Geisler - Ooh Yeah

Martin Geisler is an independent author and film director and this is his work for Moby's contest. This music video has been directed, shooted, cinematography, edited, FX, and produced by his self.

In the music video, he wanted to speak about a contrast between feminine sensuality and silver angles of a cold box. The concept is about emprisonment, captivity and a possible release by the way of the music and the (disco) lights. Music can liberate people from deepest fears and bring us into a new reality.

The final result of this competition will be post on the 28th of July.

Kerli - Love Is Dead Enters The Top 200!

'Love Is Dead", the debut album from Estonian pop princess, Kerli, entered the Top 200 Albums Chart this week at #126, #3 on the Heatseekers New Artist Chart, and #22 on the Digital Albums Chart.

The video for Kerli’s single “Walking On Air” has been getting a great reaction online. It is currently the #1 Music Video on AOL Music, and debuted with 107,334 views. To date the video has been streamed over 692,000 times on YouTube and last month it was ranked as the #18 Top Favorite Video (Music) on the site. Yahoo has announced their support for Kerli as well, by featuring her in the Yahoo! Music’s Who’s Next?: Critical Eye spotlight, beginning on July 23. Past “Who’s Next?” artists have included Amy Winehouse, My Chemical Romance, Feist, Sara Bareilles and more. Furthermore, Kerli has been selected as one of MSN’s “Artists To Watch.” To add to the online presence, “Walking On Air” officially impacted at the Top 40 radio format yesterday, and has already garnered early commitments from stations in top markets.

In addition, Kerli’s original brand of pop-goth has been getting raves in the press. People noted, “Certainly, her small Baltic country isn’t known as a music hotbed-but that may change with Kerli’s goth-pop debut.” The Los Angeles Times stated, “The first single, “Walking On Air” … showcases Kerli’s voice at its best.” Perhaps Artistdirect said it best: “Ultimately, Kerli's onto something that could be very significant for the disenfranchised, disillusioned 21st century youth.”

Kerli’s edgy musical savvy – drawing comparisons to Amy Lee of Evanescence and Bjork – grew at least partly from her upbringing in Estonia, which regained its independence from the USSR in 1991, when she was just four years old. A product of “tough love,” Kerli spent most of her childhood seeking to transcend her surroundings by immersing herself in the arts, studying vocals, ballet, acting, and classical piano. By the time she turned 14, she knew what her focus would be. “I was so sure that my life was going to be all about singing,” Kerli says, that “I quit everything else.”

Kerli is a fascinating, magnetic young presence, whose talents as a songwriter are progressing at an extraordinary pace. “I’m trying to create a world around my music,” she says. “And this world needs to be pure, real, honest and beautiful but still a little interesting, dark and definitely mysterious.”

It was their second number one after "Truly Madly Deeply" and reached the top spot of Billboard Hot 100 on the week dated January 29, 2000, staying there for three consecutive weeks. The video shows the band alone in a carriage and also full of people. Then the train seems to stop and the power goes out, a red back up light comes on and everyone in the carriage joins hand. Hayes who is sitting opposite Dunst reaches out his hands to her. As they touch, we are shown the couple walking through a park bathed in sunlight, laughing and holding hands. Then its back to reality as the train lights come back on and comes to the next station. Both Hayes and Dunst get up to leave, smile at each other as they exit the carriage and part ways. Jon McLaughlin - Gears Up For OK Now

American heartland singer-songwriter and pianist Jon McLaughlin – whose show-stopping live performance of “So Close,” the Oscar-nominated song from the Disney movie Enchanted, was seen world¬wide during the 80th annual Academy Awards ceremonies – has returned with OK NOW, his second album for Island Records, due October 7th. Fans are getting a sample with the release of a new single, “Beating My Heart,” which impacted at the Hot AC radio format on June 9th. Leading the charge at that format is influential station WBMX in Boston, with other stations quickly getting on board. It impacted at Top 40 on June 30th, and the digital download single went live on June 17th. In addition, McLaughlin opened for British sensation Duffy on June 19th at the El Rey in Los Angeles.

“Beating My Heart” was written by Jon McLaughlin and produced by John Fields, known for his recent chart-topping work with the Jonas Brothers, Lifehouse, and Switchfoot. The new album is being mixed by Tom Lord-Alge and will feature the soon-to-be hit “Smack In To You,” written and produced by the Grammy award-winning team of Tricky and The-Dream.

Jon’s triumphant Oscar night performance ignited an astonishing 1,514% overnight sales increase at Amazon for Indiana, which neatly took over the #1 spot on the Movers & Shakers chart. “Musically, the big winner of the night was Jon McLaughlin,” wrote FoxNews.com’s Roger Friedman in his Oscars coverage. “He sang one of the Enchanted songs. Talk about a break-out moment! That’s a phenomenal voice… McLaughlin could be the next big thing.”

Indiana, Jon McLaughlin’s first major label album, received maximum exposure on tours with Sara Bareilles last summer, Paolo Nutini in the fall, and then climaxing with Kelly Clarkson on her 24-city North American tour, October through December.

The Brooklyn-based futurist rock/pop ensemble MGMT will follow the group's sizzling summer concert schedule opening for Beck on the post-modern musical collagist's forthcoming autumn tour beginning September 19 in San Diego (please see full MGMT/Beck itinerary following).

Presale tickets for the MGMT/Beck concerts will be made available on the band's website (www.whoismgmt.com) in advance of the public on-sales for the shows. Presale alerts and further information may be found at the MGMT website.

2008 has provided a number of watershed events for MGMT, whose critically-acclaimed debut album, Oracular Spectacular, hit #1 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart and has recently broken the SoundScan 100K sales mark. The group has been honing its live show through a series of headline gigs and mind-bending festival performances including South By Southwest, Coachella and Bonnaroo in the states and the UK's mythic Glastonbury extravaganza. MGMT -- who opened for Radiohead in Manchester on June 29 during an extensive tour of the UK and Europe -- will perform with Columbia Records labelmates The Ting Tings at the JellyNYC Pool Party at Brooklyn's McCarren Pool on Sunday, July 27. The group is scheduled to play Lollapalooza in Chicago on Saturday, August 2.

Pegged as one of Rolling Stone's "Best Rookies In 2008" in the "Best Of Rock" issue, MGMT is proving especially popular with fans and critics in the UK where Oracular Spectacular entered the UK Albums Chart at #12 while the band came in at #9 in the BBC's Sound of 2008 Top 10 poll.
